The 2018 Red Run takes place against the backdrop of a momentous time in the world of HIV. We have seen a dramatic fall in new HIV diagnosis, particularly amongst gay men in London. London has exceeded the UNAIDS 90:90:90 target. Undetectable=Untransmittable is an evidence-based statement. The brilliant fact that a person living with HIV diagnosed early and accessing treatment is likely to live as long as someone of a similar age and background.
However, amongst the good news the challenge remains that not everyone, and not all communities are benefiting. 103,000 people are currently living with HIV in the UK (50,000 in London). HIV stigma is still a reality and there are still too many people undiagnosed and diagnosed late. Funding cuts to the HIV sector are still all too commondespite the fact that HIV support services change lives.
Now is most certainly not the time for us to stand down!
During registration please select which HIV charity you’ll be running in support of. We hope to see you there!
World AIDS Day Red Run Village
Anchoring the Red Run village will be the entertainment area powered by the iconic landmark on the city’s club scene Eagle London with DJs from legendary Horse Meat Disco providing music before and during the Run.
Drag girl band superstars DENIM will be the 2018 World AIDS Day Red Run Mistresses of Ceremonies introducing the line up of guest speakers, acts, artists and entertainers.
Panels of the UK AIDS Memorial Quilt will be on display along with a pop-up AIDS Memorial and a poster exhibition of HIV support and prevention campaigns. There will also be a community area with charity stalls and information about the HIV sector.
Like last year, Starbucks will be on site keeping the (free!) hot coffee flowing. Importantly, registration, bag check and toilet facilities will be located with the village.
Thank you to this year’s World AIDS Day Red Run Platinum Sponsors – Gilead and State Street Global Advisers and to our Gold Sponsors – Interbank, Eagle London, Horse Meat Disco, Emerald Life and Starbucks for helping to make it all happen.
