The Show Goes On – Studio 88 & Theatrical Rights Worldwide

Theatrical Rights Worldwide (TRW) are teaming up with Studio 88 and the MAD Trust to present a brand-new weekly cabaret entitled THE SHOW GOES ON – in aid of The Make A Difference Trust

Set to be the stagiest cabaret in the West End, this monthly event in aid of Tme Make A Difference Trust launched in September 2018, hosted by the fabulous Christopher Biggins, with a star line up including: Sam Attwater, Adrian Bevan, Jessica Brady, Lauren Drew, Victoria Hamilton-Barritt, Rob Houchen, Oliver Savile and Danielle Steers.

FREE to attend, this event on the first Monday of every month will see new and established performers singing songs from well-loved musical theatre catalogues, as well as new work from emerging writers, all backed by an incredible six-piece band.  Vice President of TRW, Drew Baker said, “For so long the West End has been calling out for a regular after-hours musical theatre night. These cabaret nights take us back to the good old days when performers would always dash to a post-performance cabaret, to perform until the early hours. We guarantee audiences are in for a treat.

TRW have teamed up with the Make A Difference Trust, a UK based charity with a vision of a world free from HIV and AIDS, to help raise funds for the trust. Building on the legacy of 30 years of fundraising by the Theatre industry, they continue to make the vision a reality. Melanie Tranter, chair of the Make A Difference Trust said, “We’re thrilled Theatrical Rights Worldwide and Studio 88 have chosen to support the MAD Trust with their Musical Theatre cabaret evenings. The funds raised will help us to continue our work to support those living with or affected by HIV and AIDS.

Held in the West End at Studio 88, 47 Whitcomb St, London WC2H 7DH, the shows start 10pm, with doors opening from 5pm onwards, allowing post-performance audiences and casts alike to enjoy this new event.

Each monthly event from then on will finish at 1am and will feature a £4 drinks menu to enjoy alongside the cabaret. THE SHOW GOES ON will have a different line up each week ensuring that no two cabarets are the same, with the first Monday of every month designated as Cast Night where West End shows will take over the stage.

These nights will operate on a first come, first served basis, so arrive in good time to avoid missing out on this new event!

The 2018 Red Run takes place against the backdrop of a momentous time in the world of HIV. We have seen a dramatic fall in new HIV diagnosis, particularly amongst gay men in London.  London has exceeded the UNAIDS 90:90:90 target.  Undetectable=Untransmittable is an evidence-based statement.  The brilliant fact that a person living with HIV diagnosed early and accessing treatment is likely to live as long as someone of a similar age and background.

However, amongst the good news the challenge remains that not everyone, and not all communities are benefiting.  103,000 people are currently living with HIV in the UK (50,000 in London).  HIV stigma is still a reality and there are still too many people undiagnosed and diagnosed lateFunding cuts to the HIV sector are still all too commondespite the fact that HIV support services change lives.

Now is most certainly not the time for us to stand down!

During registration please select which HIV charity you’ll be running in support of. We hope to see you there!

World AIDS Day Red Run Village

Anchoring the Red Run village will be the entertainment area powered by the iconic landmark on the city’s club scene Eagle London with DJs from legendary Horse Meat Disco providing music before and during the Run.

Drag girl band superstars DENIM will be the 2018 World AIDS Day Red Run Mistresses of Ceremonies introducing the line up of guest speakers, acts, artists and entertainers.

Panels of the UK AIDS Memorial Quilt will be on display along with a pop-up AIDS Memorial and a poster exhibition of HIV support and prevention campaigns.  There will also be a community area with charity stalls and information about the HIV sector.

Like last year, Starbucks will be on site keeping the (free!) hot coffee flowing.  Importantly, registration, bag check and toilet facilities will be located with the village.

Winner Phantom of the Opera “simultaneously bonkers, bold and brilliantly executed”

“… … … But great as these performances are, it is the companies of the West End shows who deserve the greatest attention. With each performance predominantly undertaken by the junior members of each show’s ensemble, the evening is both a celebration of the depth of talent within the West End and a valuable fundraiser for HIV charities. Long may it continue.”

“Fabulous and hilarious”
“… … … All-rounder Richard Gauntlett leads the proceedings, a man totally at home on the stage delivering in-jokes with the ability to mock and congratulate ‘showbiz’ both at the same time. To be a target of his satire is considered an honour. His banter is matched by the three judges: comedian, writer and actor Tom Allen, West End and TV star John Partridge and showbiz legend Arlene Phillips. But let’s cut to the chase – the reason we’re all here – which is the high-camp razzamatazz of each act’s performance. Selected cast from eight current West End Musicals give their own unique interpretation of a past Eurovision entry song.

The cast of “Hamilton” kick off the evening with a driven, streetwise rap version of ‘Cliché Love Song’. Next up is “Young Frankenstein” with ‘Take Me To Your Heaven’. “42nd Street” start off with a conventional ‘Boom Bang A Bang’ before Lulu interrupted and they switched into a roof raising rendition, culminating in Lulu’s trademark wail intro for ‘Shout’. The energy doesn’t drop throughout the night and with the “Kinky Boots” kick-ass rendition of ‘Warrior’ the roof began to look in danger of, literally, being brought down. After interval “Dreamgirls” superbly sent up Bucks Fizz with a parody of the original ‘Making Your Mind Up’, before hurling themselves into their own version of the song with as many tempo changes as harmonies. “Mamma Mia” performed ‘Undo’ and “Aladdin” fittingly closed the running order with the aptly titled ‘Drama Queen’.

And the winner is … (being a one night only event this is obviously not a spoiler) “Phantom Of The Opera” with a dramatic ‘Rise Like A Phoenix”. Fabulous and hilarious, Conchita would have adored this performance, complete with fake beards of varying, comic unshavenness (yes, that is a word). For me, it was a close run between them and “Dreamgirls”, but “Phantom” deserve the trophy. And the cherry on the cake is to have the award presented by Graham Norton.

With guest appearances from SuRie, our Eurovision representative this year in Lisbon, performing ‘Storm’, followed by Lucie Jones singing last year’s entry ‘Never Give Up on You’, this was a high energy show from which you do leave on a high. But we are not allowed, and quite rightly so, to ignore the serious side. TheatreMAD: the Make A Difference Trust raises funds for HIV and AIDS projects that build awareness and provide care, support and education in the UK and Sub-Saharan Africa. Long may this annual event continue, and long may the Trust fly the flag for this totally mad night.”

“What a night. I could not imagine a better treat than seeing 8 of the best West End casts performing on the same stage in the same night. Not only that but we had this year’s … … … Denmark’s 2007 Drama Queen performed by Aladdin was also brilliant. I mainly loved the fact that the family show decided this may be their only opportunity to dress their extremely attractive male dancers in leather straps and belt… … … The time and effort which has gone into these performances by all of those on and off stage need to be applauded. Not only do the concepts of the productions need to be created, but then they need choreographed, learnt and rehearsed, as well as costumes, hair and makeup and designed (and boy were the costumes amazing) – all while doing 8 shows a week!”
